Dear yahoo answers question askers.
I like helping people. The joy I get from assisting the needy or the under informed is quite rewarding, and if I could, i'd do it more often. Before the internet, I was only able to give my very coveted advice to those in my immediate vicinity. these people were sometimes greatful, sometimes angry at the advice i'd give them. But every time I helped someone I felt better about myself in a little way. I wanted more of this "positive feeling" for myself. so i sought ways to help more and more people. along came yahoo answers.
For those who don't know, yahoo answers is an open-ended advice site provided by, well, yahoo. people get to ask and answer questions. They are appropriated points if they answer questions well or get picked for best answer. "great!" i thought, "i'll take a look and try to answer to the best of my ability", or so I thought. after browsing the site for a few minutes, I realized something startling: the people who ask questions in yahoo answers are beyond my ability help. the questions were not hard to answer, life threatening, or simply too complicated, but rather, the people asking the questions just seemed hopeless.
Firstly, I'm going to logically assume that most people who use yahoo answers are native English speakers. the site gets a few posts from people in India, and although their grammar can be a little fucked up, their questions usually have better English than the fodder who are from my native land.
Secondly, a lot of people who answer questions do not use the conveniently placed search bar at the bottom of every answer form to actually LOOK UP INFORMATION. why do people post answers to things they do not know the answer to? Assuming a solution to a problem is not going to help anybody. Furthermore, NO, god will not solve your problems of the flesh. preying to save your marriage when your husband is sleeping with another woman, wont do a god-damned thing.
And lastly, Why cant you people look up the trivial stuff on your own? yahoo is first and foremost, a search engine. is it so hard to type in a question into a form, which probably will get your results faster and more efficently? i guess not for most poeple.
But of course, thats why yahoo answers was created in the first place.
Despite all this, there are people who put yahoo answers to good use: They answer questions truthfully and intelligently, ask interesting and hard to-solve problems, and more importantly use their brains. Thank you, good users. Even though you're only 2% of the population, you make the internet so much more worth while.
-Love,
me.

Nick, I think you need to do less hating and just accept god into your life, it will help you get a girlfriend, God wants to help you with your trivial bullshit, it's what he's there for, screw world hunger and the threat of nuclear holocaust. God loves you...and only you...and that's what matters.
I had to laugh at the first comment.
I find it quite funny that for someone who rants about people who use bad grammar, your article has a ton of bad grammar/typos.
I hate Yahoo! Answers, it's all spam now.
It doesn't seem to be a family safe site like it used to be. I report spam there's a few adult questions that me and my friends had reported but their still there.
One of my friends used to go on Yahoo! Answers to get answers for school and help learning like I'm sure a lot of people do, but he avoids going here now. I even e-mailed Yahoo! Answers and gave them ideas like to have something that would automatically delete spam, chat or adult type questions. But that was awhile ago and they seem to have ignored that.
They may as well put up a message warning users to be 18 before using this site.
hi! i literally just joined yahoo to ask a question about a game i had bought. i asked it and then 5 minutes later i got a comment saying that the game is crap and i should go get some friends..
i then realised there was a more appropriate section to put my question under. so i changed it to this other section. got another comment (from a different user) saying 'no. stop asking.'
now im sorry.. but that really irratated me. if people dont want to answer a question then why waste their time being cheeky to people who are CLEARLY alot younger than they are.. as the question was posted about a video game.
either that or they like to insult.
i first reported the answers (not that anything will happen) then deleted my questions. i for one.. 2hours ago was open to yahoo answers. now i dont even want to bother with it as i will only get cheeky answers.
it seems to always be the same anywhere you wish to post a question.. those members who have been using it for a while shun any newbie.. definatly not family like!
My personal peeve is the way many of the questioners obviously want clear-cut answers rather than correct ones. I'm interested in the Quotations section, and I estimate at least 25% of the questions there involve false attribution.
Q: I need to know for a school essay who said, "The duck is mightier than the aardvark?" ... or whatever.
Some eejit looks it up on one of the many lame quotations sites with zero attribution checking, and says Gandhi / Emerson / Jefferson: Best Answer, 10 points.
You look it up on Google Books and find from the Yale Book of Quotations that it wasn't attributed to Gandhi / Emerson / Jefferson until some moronic Christian self-help book pinned it on him in 2003: 0 points and three thumbs-downs.
And schools are supposed to be teaching these people critical thinking and proper research methods? It's evidently not soaking in.
Don't even worry about the assholes who posted rude comments on this blog, they're just immature.
Yahoo! Answers is SUCH a good idea, but because the people who answer the questions are generally uneducated, only looking for points, or 12, the answers generally incorrect or an absolute mess. When I am looking up a question online and an answer from Yahoo! Answers pops up, I don't even bother looking.

I used to be a top contributor for the psychology section. I tried my best to give thoughtful , appropriate and helpful advice for users looking for support, then one day i log in after taking a break for some weeks , only to find out my badge was gone . It turns out that i needed to get constantly best answers in order to keep my top contributor status up , i think thats BULLSHIIIT! so just because i decided to take care of my real life all the effort i put into these people giving me a top contributor place is gone ? I left when it got really idiotic , full of trolls and stupid mean answers . screw you yahoo and your stupid regulations!
Yeah I HATE Yahoo Awnsers. That site SUCKS. I ask questions I need for my work on my show, school, ect., and they give me a piece of crap awnser basicly telling me "I don't know," and once I got an answer basicly saying "Look it up yourself, stupid." I quit Yahoo answers. Wiki is soo much better. They actully take time to get an answer for me and give me many links and proof to back it up.
Yahoo answers can be great, but it can also be stupid and cruel. There are ALOT of insensitive people open to hurt feelings and insult someone. I hate it for that. But, it's also have a lot of knowledge in it's own right. I hate using it though.
